Gunawardana Tea is located 5.7km from Akuressa town and located in a middle of 10 acres tea covered plantation. Akuressa area is in matara district and its belongs to southern province and this region has, for decades, been synonymous with the highest quality low grown tea in a country known the world over the excellence of its products.

Gunawardana Tea Factory (GTF) was founded by Mr.J.J. Gunawardana on December 24th, 1991. GTF makes best quality black tea, maintain the age-old tradition, keeping inherent aroma, taste, and quality. And it stamped its mark between 1-10 in the country as the best producers in low green tea and took highest price for most of the grades in in each auction.. GTF’s volume of monthly production of made tea is about 35000kg and 150 permeant workers working under his supervision.

Our tea is selling in variety of countries including United Arab Emirates, Iran, Turkey, Russia, Japan, Slovakia, China, and United Kingdom. This golden tea leaves harvested from a fertile tea plant, are produced in a very safe and quality manner until the machinery by the experienced employees working in the factory. GTF is implementing Japanese 5S system for delivering high quality premium products at the correct time with the systemic way of organizing factory by eliminating waste, improving flow and reducing the number of process where possible. Most valuable thing is appreciations from the world over about quality of the tea and services we provided.

For these 31 years we received number of accolades for making standard and quality tea. GTF are conductive to manufacture Tea of Good Quality and has been awarded the rating Two Star in the Ceylon Tea Quality Certificate Quality Management System. Received 2nd place for Best Tea Factory-National Level 2017.Winner of Ruhuna Region in 2018, 2019.Won Sri Lankan best Entrepreneur of the year on 2005,2006,2007,2008 from Ceylon Chamber Commerce and best entrepreneur in southern province in 2020 by National Enterprise Authority. For making best and quality products received 2nd and 3rd place on National Productivity award in 2006.

Gunawardana Tea Factory is also certified ISO 22000:2005 and ISO 22000:2018. And, has been accessed and certified the as meeting the requirements of HACCP Codex Alimentarius manufacture of black tea.

Our factory is only getting good quality tea leaves from leaf suppliers and paying highest values for each kilo in every month for their sheer commitment more than other factories in akuressa region.
